Trinity Drum Exam Prep for
Singapore Players

Three songs do not make a drummer. We teach the Trinity set the way a hired player would take it — Technical Focus, session skills, and a 15-minute HDB routine that keeps the neighbours and the examiner.

1. Three songs, one TF

  • Song 1: current Trinity songbook, official backing track.
  • Song 3: a Technical Focus piece. Two named skills, not a harder fill.
  • Song 2 can be own-choice if the grade standard actually matches.

2. Session skills are 20 marks

  • Playback: unseen chart plus audio. Hear it, read it, or both.
  • Improvising: blues, ballad, rock, reggae over a short chart.
  • Digital exams drop this test. We still teach it. Bands do not.

3. HDB 15 minutes

  • Pad first. Neighbours hear kits; they barely hear gum rubber.
  • Keep velocity layers honest on the mesh. Flat samples fail TF.
  • After about 10pm, keep it on headphones or stop.

4. Exam vs leisure

  • Trinity marks a set. A band marks whether the singer still has air.
  • Leisure students get the same click work over songs they actually play.
  • A certificate is paper. A callback is a job.
